Pride in the Details: Lochlan Lewis Shines in Pontypool
Last week, as part of his ongoing work as Fleet Manager, Ian Marriner visited Quattro’s engineering department in Pontypool. While there, he was shown a machine that had been brought in with electrical issues, and, at first glance it looked beyond repair.
Until fitter Lochlan Lewis got to work.
What began as a straightforward electrical fault diagnosis turned into something much more: an impressive display of skill, initiative, and pride in workmanship. Lochlan not only identified and repaired the issue, but also took it upon himself to tidy and label all the wiring, ensuring future engineers can quickly trace and understand the system. He also installed a new RCI enclosure box for added durability and clarity.
One standout detail? Lochlan repaired the air conditioning control panel under a microscope, fixing a notoriously expensive and hard-to-source component at a fraction of the replacement cost. He then reassembled the cab with care, leaving the wiring neat and the panels properly restored.
“I was genuinely impressed by his engineering prowess", said Ian, "Lochlan’s standards are exceptional, and it shows real pride and ownership.”
Lochlan’s mentor, Andrew Heath, a technical engineer at Pontypool said Lochlan got off to a flying start at Quattro. “As soon as he qualified last year he leapt into investigating every element of engineering. Now he can turn his hand to anything.”
Lochlan is no stranger to recognition. In 2021, he was named a regional winner in the Construction Plant-hire Association’s (CPA) Stars of the Future Awards, (see our news feature from 2023) and he continues to live up to that promise.
Quattro’s Pontypool fitter team continues to set a high bar for technical upgrades and meticulous repairs and, as Ian puts it, Lochlan’s attention to detail reflects “a level of care and capability that simply can’t be matched by our competitors.”
“No question about it”, said Quattro’s MD, John Murphy, “The Q-Army produces some of the best engineers in the business, and Lochlan’s proof that our Quattro culture works - train them, let them flourish and enjoy the challenges. This is the plant life!”
