Quattro supports major Charing Cross renewal by taking out old platforms

19/08/2026

Quattro mobilised multiple teams of operators, staff and RRVs for a major 22-day possession at Charing Cross, supporting Volker Fitzpatrick in the removal of deteriorating platform structures.

The worksite was located on a narrow elevated brick viaduct linking directly to the Charing Cross Rail Bridge over the Thames towards Waterloo East.

For the platform removal, three Doosan 270 RRVs were supplied and operated by Quattro, supported by the required crane controllers, POS representatives and a fitter. With shifts running concurrently throughout the possession, up to 16 personnel were deployed each day to support the RRV operation alone.

Existing platforms were dismantled and broken out before the resulting material was loaded into ballast boxes and Gecko skips for removal from site.

Temperatures reached over 30°C during the operation, but everything was completed as planned and the station re-opened yesterday.

Paul Neethling, Quattro Area Manager, said:

“The job was completed safely, on time and without any overrun, and the new platforms look fantastic. This was Quattro's first platform refurbishment on this scale and I'd call it a successful adventure! Our thanks to VolkerFitzpatrick."
