A first for UK rail: Quattro Plant upgrades Komatsu dozers

28/10/2026

Quattro Plant has completed a major upgrade programme on two Komatsu D41 dozers, bringing the machines into compliance with NRMM emissions standards through the installation of an AdBlue-powered SCR system.

The project is believed to be a first for UK rail, building on Quattro Plant's growing expertise in emissions upgrades for construction and rail equipment.

The new exhaust and SCR system effectively takes the machines from their original non-compliant Stage 2 specification to Stage 5 compliance, significantly reducing emissions and extending their working life.

Ian Marriner, Quattro Plant Fleet Manager (South)

"Rather than replacing the machines with new dozers, which can cost around £260,000, we've upcycled our perfectly good existing equipment. The upgrades have been completed for approximately 10% of that cost, offering a more economical and more sustainable alternative to replacement."

Components and wear parts were brought back to a high standard before the emissions upgrade was completed, and their first job was out on Charing Cross development over the summer.

John Murphy, Quattro Plant Managing Director

“The dozers performed flawlessly at Charing Cross, without missing a beat. There’s no doubt that Quattro now has some of the greenest working dozers in the UK.”
