Quattro Visits Holy Cross Primary Careers Fair

31/03/2025

Quattro was honoured to be part of the Holy Cross Catholic Primary Careers Fair in Harlow last week, to help inspire children aged 8-11 about possibilities and options for their future.

Quattro’s HR Advisor, Sarah Bartlett, was charmed by the children as she answered their questions and shared information about the multiple and varied careers in rail.

Sarah was keen to appeal to girls in particular, to show them that engineering can be a great career for women.  As the industry is one historically dominated by men, visiting schools is a way that helps shift perceptions and motivate girls, as well as boys, to see it as a viable path.

Sarah stressed the importance of addressing stereotypes before they form.

‘Girls aged 8-11 are young, but never too young to start talking about what they might want to be when they grow up.  Company presence at careers fairs gives young kids, especially girls, the opportunity to ask questions.  This can help stem any stereotypical views before they form.’

The careers fair was a great success, with the children very curious about Quattro’s rail machines, such as much they cost and how heavy they were.  A few even asked if any of the machines were ‘transformers’… demonstrating young engineering brains at work!

The school newsletter detailed that the children found the fair both ‘informative’ and ‘inspiring’.

Future rail industry employees?  We think so!  Thank you for inviting Quattro Group, Holy Cross, we hope to be back next year!
