Quattro delivers new energy-efficient escalator for Cutty Sark Station upgrade
Quattro Plant recently completed an important delivery operation at Blakey’s Yard, the access point closest to Cutty Sark Station, which is currently closed for upgrade works. The task involved transporting new escalators to the DLR platform via a route that included a steady 6% gradient.
To ensure the machines were suited to the conditions, incline trials were carried out in advance at Croydon Tramlink on a section of track with the same gradient. This allowed the team to confirm that the hydrostatic Doosan Ultimate 250 was the right machine for the job.
Lee Bridgeman, Quattro Contracts Manager commented:
“The job marked the first time a Doosan Ultimate 250 has been used on the DLR’s operational infrastructure. It was good to see the detailed preparation paid off! Everything went smoothly on the day.”
Cutty Sark DLR station closed in late May 2025 to replace its four unreliable escalators with new, energy-efficient ones, and is scheduled to reopen in spring 2026. The images from Blakey’s Yard give a detailed look behind the scenes.
John Murphy, Quattro MD added: "The Doosan Ultimate 250 was the optimum choice for the job. A delivery well escalated with a few ups and downs for the Q-Army!"
