Kershaw Racing Wins First World Championship Double
Before heading to Oschersleben in Germany, Quattro sponsored sidecar dynamos Steve Kershaw and Ryan Charlwood anticipated facing the most difficult and technical track on the calendar… but the penultimate race turned out to be their fastest and most awarded of the season.
‘We were preparing ourselves, hoping that a podium place could be achieved, but it all surpassed our expectations’ says Kershaw. ‘In the practice we were the fastest and I realised how good the bike felt. From that point on we broke the lap record in qualifying and then took pole position for the sprint race (12 laps) on Saturday. We led from the start of the race to the last lap. We won by an incredible 4 seconds. Behind us was the reigning world champion and five prior world champions.’
Matching this win with another win on Sunday claimed the team their first world championship double.
'On Sunday we had a warm up, and checked the bike over and all was good. At Sunday afternoon’s feature race (21 laps) we led from the off, but this time Ellis was hot on our heels for the entire race. He was never able to pass and we beat him by 1.7 seconds. This is our first ever world championship double, we’re elated!’
With one round left in the championship, Kershaw is determined for the team to keep pushing.
‘It’s super tight, but with this win we’ve created a gap. We went into in 3rd initially with just one point over 4th and 5th, and now we have 24 points clear. We’ve clawed points back and pushing for second is a tall order but we will keep trying.’

The team travel to Estoril, Portugal for the final race in the championship on 27-29 October.
‘The plan is to continue the momentum and try for another double . We want to finish the season as strongly as possible. This double has given us the confidence boost we needed. If we can do it in Germany, which I thought was our weakest track… we can do it anywhere.’
Full list of first places include first in free practice, first in qualification, taking the lap record, fastest lap of the weekend, first pole position of the year, winner of race one, winner of race two, and first double win for Kershaw Racing.
‘Double congratulations to Team Quattro! Kershaw and Charlwood are full of unexpected twists and this double win proves it. With the Q-Army behind them they continue to challenge and discombobulate other world class sidecar champions. It’s thrilling to watch… it’s not over yet!’ - John Murphy, MD
